GENERAL

North Berwick is a bustling town on the East Lothian coast. Just 30 minutes by train from Edinburgh, we think we have one of the most beautiful locations in Scotland.

Lovely safe beaches mean North Berwick has long been a holiday destination, tourists from Edinburgh still take the train along the coast for a day trip or a longer stay.

We also welcome many visitors from further afield; in the middle ages the town was a staging post for pilgrims en route to St Andrews.

Our historic harbour is a gem, and is packed with yachts, excusion boats and a few fishing boats too. You can buy lobster at the harbourside. Delicious!

We’re lucky to have loads of great shops in North Berwick, holiday makers can easily get hold of great fresh local produce, all from the High Street.

Meat & Fish Andersons Quality Butcher - great meat sourced locally Fish and speciality foods available at Bunney's on the High Street Lobster for sale at the harbour - from the fisherman's secret hideout!

Groceries & Wine Nisa - a great little supermarket, with freshly baked bread and croissants, wine and beers and a new DVD rental machine! Open everyday till 9pm. Co-op - another small supermarket open till 10pm most days. Lockett Bros Wines - local award winning wine merchants.

Cafes

Buttercup Cafe Serving wonderful homemade soups, quiches, cakes and traditional breakfasts the tiny Buttercup Cafe is a must visit. Look out for the Greek nights (the cafe is run by a Scottish-Greek couple)!

Steampunk Coffee @ The Den Studio, Forth Street are the new coffee gurus in town, best coffee served here, to sit in or take away. Also selling their own roasted beans and ground coffee.

Strings Cafe at the tennis courts, just back from the East Bay with table to eat outside and inside, serving all day brakefast, freshly baked scones and cakes, lunches and afternoon tea in an awesome location, open from May to September.

Seabird Centre Cafe - amazing harbour location for a cafe, with seating outside on a deck looking towards the Bass Rock, or inside if inclement, serving coffee, lunches, cakes and ice cream all day from 10am - 4.30pm

Zanzibar - cafe on the High Street serving Costa Coffee.

Cake Family friendy cafe on the High Street, serving great coffee and tea with lunch and lots of cake, room for buggies.

Restaurants & Bars

Lobster Shack - the amazing new eaterie at the harbour, serving freshly cooked locally caught lobster and local steaks, with salad and chips, washed down with a little fizz outdoors on the quayside, the new must do!

Osteria - a small intimate italian restaurant run by award winning head chef, Daniella Cocchia, serviving the best scottish produce in classic italian style. Patons come from far and wide to eat here, and it is advisable to book ahead for dinner reservations. Serves luches as well Tues - Sat.

Afternoon Tea at Greywalls - for a special treat go to Greywalls in Gullane for afternoon tea and you will find yourselves transported to a different era, where service is back to its best and the food is divine. On arrival you will be shown to where tea will be served, possibly in the Library or outside in the Jeckyll gardens. Then once you have chosed your tea, oh and by the way your scones will now be baking, you will be served a selection of cakes (many and wonderful), your hot scones and sandwiches by staff whose only concern is to look after you. Don't have lunch otherwise you will not be able to mange them all. Lunches are also served here too! Afternoon tea is £17/person, well worth it.

SIGHTSEEING & ATTRACTIONS

Historic Castles - we have three awesome castles on our doorstep, Tantallon Castle perched dramatically on a cliff edge, directly opposite the Bass Rock, the substantial remains of the medieval Dirleton Castle and its gardens and Hailes Castle with its slightly scary pit prisons, all within 7 miles.

Sula II - the most amazing boat trips to get up close and personal with the gannets on the Bass Rock (really up close and prersonal when they bring rescued gannet chicks home on the boat!). Also trips to see the Puffins on Craiglieth and rouns the Lamb and Fidra. Sailing times are displayed on a board in fornt of the harbour.

Scottish Seabird Centre - award winning visitor centre for all things seabird, with remote cameras you can operate on the Bass Rock and Fidra so you can zoom into the birds on their nests, Big Brother style! Cafe for coffee and cakes or lunch with amazing outdoor deck seating with a view. Open all year.

S. Luca's Ice Cream Van - suppliers of the best italian ice cream on the east coast, with it's stand at the bottom of Melbourne Road/Victoria Road.

Belhaven Fruit Farm - pick your own seasonal strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and fabulous new fruit ices and cafe.

East Links Family Park - just outside Dunbar is a local farm style amusement park very popular with our smaller guests. Lots of animals to feed, train rides, pedal cars, play barns, donkey rides and many other things to do. Cafe onsite as well picnic areas for refreshments as you will need to be there for some time! Also next door to the John Muir Country park, where there is a playground and miles of walks.

National Museum of Flight, East Fortune - a large collection of aeroplanes from WW1 to present day, and includes a chance to get a look inside Concord.

ACTIVITIES

We quite like to sit on the beach and relax, but there are some great opportunities to work off your fish & chips in North Berwick and the surrounding countryside...

Golf We are on the Golf Coast, and there are lots of golf courses to choose from, whether you are a scratch player or are learning from...scratch!

Sailing The East Lothian Yacht Club is based in North Berwick Harbour, which is just a few minutes walk from all our properties, has courses for beginners, improvers (adults and children), want-to-be racers and powerboaters.

Surfing Coast to Coast Surf School (and surf hire) is based just along the coast at Dunbar, with lessons happening at beautiful Belhaven Bay. Beginners and improvers are catered for, along with those who just want to hire a board and wetsuit. Booking recommended.

Walking The John Muir Way - this scenic route passes through North Berwick and links Edinburgh to the Scottish borders, following the lovely East Lothian coast.

North Berwick Law - get a great vantage point with fantastic views across the town - and sea - from our local volcano!

Cycling Law Cycles - bike hire

Fishing Markle Fishery is East Lothians premier trout fishery, with two still water lochs you are sure to catch a good one. Check into their website for info.
